LoTi Strategies

We discussed many ideas yesterday of ways to Bring the H.E.A.T. to Delaware. What is one strategy you are going to take back to your district to implement?

  1. I will try to encourage our faculty to use technology not as an entity in itself, but as a tool to engage students in their learning process. Currently our staff is assuming since there are so many technology related questions that this is the focus of Loti. We hope to show them how to "turn up the HEAT" in other ways.

I would also like to encourage our administration to be more involved in the process.

  2. As a result of yesterday, I have a greater understanding of LoTi and the influence it can have over every content area. The H.E.A.T. walkthrough evaluation is a great tool that I plan on taking back to my school for implementation. It is a way to provide meaningful and immediate feedback to the teacher that can result in a change in instructional practices.

  3. I'd like to train administrators to use the Sniff test and HEAT part of the HEAT observation form at least. Eventually I'd like to get more of them using the LoTi Observer.

  4. I'd like to integrate some of the videos into my training sessions so that teachers have a chance to practice looking at HEAT and deciding where a lesson falls.

  5. I would like to coordinate with the other instructional coaches in our district as well as administrators to give them an overview of the H.E.A.T. observation form as a means to identify what the H.E.A.T. level is in each of the buildings. I would also like to use the LoTi details summary to coordinate goals for each of the schools and for the overall district.

  6. I see lots of ways to infuse LoTi and the H.E.A.T. concepts into what is already being done. This needs to be perceived as a key element that is a good fit with the current initiatives and not as a separate strategy to be added on to the already overwhelmed classroom teacher's load.

  7. I will stress we don't have to concentratrate on the LoTi number, but the suggestions of good teaching practices. I would like to do a quick workshop on page 4 of the handout, the Sniff Test. I think it would help the teachers to see the LoTi concept is not threatening. I think many of them fill out the survey with what they think they think we think they should be doing, if that makes sense.

  8. Now that the "Technology" is out of the LoTi acronym, I need to emphasize the "Teaching Innovation" with our staff and make sure that they understand each of the survey questions before they attempt the survey.

  9. After yesterday's training, I am better informed of the purpose and power of using LoTi in or school district. I will use the HEAT rubric to assist administration in the walkthrough process and to encourage teachers to guide their instruction based on this HEAT process.

  10. I would like to arrange for teachers to share technology lessons with other teachers and allow them the opportunity to observe these lessons while they are being delivered to the students. I believe this would enhance the level of integration at our school. I would also encourage the teachers observing to make recommendations to their peers that would improve the instructional delivery of the lesson. Once the observing teacher feels comfortable with their presentation and integration, the other teacher could come and observe to provide constructive feedback. Ideally, coverage would be provided by an administrator or coach at the school in 45 minute blocks.

  11. Prior to sending out the LoTi survey this year, I am planning to meet with district administrators regarding the survey results from last year. This will remind them of the fact that these scores do serve a purpose and that someone is reviewing them and the way in which they relate to funding sources.

  12. I would like to share the H.E.A.T. analogy with our curriculum director and supervisors. I think it will help them understand that LoTi is not just about technology but more about good teaching.

I would love to show some videos of LoTi 3 and LoTi 4 lessons. Amy if you can point us to some I would appreciate it :)

  13. I am in the process of putting together a Division of Instruction web site. After seeing some of the links in the Lotilounge, I am going to to feature some of the good lessons from the Loti site on my page.

  14. Judith I are going to compose an e-mail to our superintendent thanking him for being so open to using the LoTi courses and the SMART Board initiative that he is supporting. In the e-mail we will ask him to encourage some of the administration to attend the 2 hour LoTi presentation in order for there to be more understanding of the data that Loti provides and how to use the results.

  15. I think the biggrest thing i can do as a cadre member is show with my actions that Lot is more than technogolgy. The bigger part is the "HEA" part. Using technology is a way to enhance and engage the students.

  16. A strategy that I am thinking of using is to piggyback on the current district/state initiatives and show how LOTI and HEAT can supplement or extend those initiatives and use the technology at the same time.

  17. I'm going to ask administrators to first focus on the HEA and then add the T(echnology)
